Year of the Ginger: Border marks biscuit’s 30th anniversary with campaign

Lanark biscuit-maker Border Biscuits has kicked off 2017 in style by celebrating “Ginger January” to mark the 30th anniversary of its best-selling Gingers range.

The tongue-in-cheek social media campaign launches 2017 as the “Year of the Ginger” and celebrates the iconic Dark Chocolate Ginger biscuit’s 30th birthday.

Fans of the brand have been asked to post ginger-themed selfies on social media to create a calendar and the company has been inundated with photos by biscuit lovers.

A number of celebrities including Gary Hollywood of Mrs Brown’s Boys, well-known bloggers and ginger appreciation groups have been in touch to lend their support, including organisers of the annual International Kiss a Ginger Day event in Toronto, Canada.

Lesley Ann Gray, brand and innovation director at Border Biscuits, said: “Our ginger biscuits have always been incredibly popular, so we wanted to do something fun to celebrate this very special birthday. “Our Dark Chocolate Ginger is the number one-selling biscuit in the sweet treats category in Scotland. We’ve been overwhelmed by the support for Ginger January and we’ve thoroughly enjoyed seeing how people are celebrating the event in their own unique way.”

Also joining in the celebrations and the face of Ginger January, is the loveable Ginger George Biscuitier character from the new advertising campaign. Ginger George is featured across the social media campaign and along with his fellow Biscuitiers will appear in an advertising campaign to mark 2017 as the Year of the Ginger.
